For the last two years, our Charlotte home has been a high-tech business incubator shared with a dozen or so other businesses. However, with our exponential growth over the last six months, our management team realized we would soon be working elbow to elbow, and they began the process of finding us a new office location. Of course, with our collaborative environment, cutting edge technology, and friendly vibe, not just any office would do.
Their efforts were successful, and a few weeks ago we began the actual move into the Charlotte Plaza building on 201 S. College Street, starting with just the essentials: standing desks, coffee machine, and a robust wi-fi connection. Most AddShoppers’ employees can work anywhere as long as we have those basics.
A few days later some of our furniture arrived (we aren't done yet!) and we began feeling like we were a proper office. Our individual meeting rooms were all named for future AddShoppers' office locations: Austin, New York, San Francisco, London, and of course, Mars. Each room borders our main lounging and work area. The views to the outside world certainly give us a sense of being part of something larger, especially as we are on the 16th floor looking out on the busy Charlotte intersection of Trade and Tryon. The shot below is from our ping-pong conference room, where we host our company-wide meetings.
The new space is roomy, with plenty of sit-down and stand-up work stations, and a kitchen gifted to us from the previous tenant, a well-known specialty food manufacturer. The kitchen (named "Nassau") is a place for meals and is also a workspace, in the finest AddShoppers tradition. Our meetings and collaborations are both ad-hoc and scheduled so it helps to have flex space open to all. You are just as likely to encounter an intense discussion about customizing our solution to a particular client in the hallway or even outside at the Charlotte Plaza fountain, as you would in the high tech glass office we now call home. Our business environment is a “holacracy”…a non-hierarchical organization functioning along project-based circles of interest, and is reflected in our workspace. It is an open, dynamic floorpan encouraging collaboration….whether we are working on a client’s project, or simply enjoying Friday morning omelettes prepared by our own Chef Andy (who doubles as one of our Account Executives, and you can contact him here (email to firstname.lastname@example.org) for information on both AddShoppers and his omelette-making secrets).
If you are in our neighborhood and are interested in meeting the staff, we welcome visitors (just give us advance notice so we can make sure the coffee is on). Contact us at:
