Founder Deena Varshavskaya, a Cornell graduate, began Wanelo in 2010 with a desire to build a shopping experience that empowers the individual. It's reported that in mid 2012 they closed a funding round of $3,000,000. Today, they have over 8 million registered members who have posted products from over 200,000 stores.
The word "Wanelo" is a combination of 3 words: Want, Need, and Love. Wanelo.com is a social, online shopping community where members can post and save products. Brands and stores benefit through the obvious social promotion of products throughout the site's network/community. In an interesting twist however, Wanelo supports ecommerce stores even further by allowing a store to have it's own 'store page' containing products shared by users (as seen below).
